Expos
Those who stopped by our booths at Prairie Fest in 2005 and at the Business Expos in 2006 and 2007 sure thought it was a great idea. An informal survey showed that most shoppers do not know much about the local businesses. A website with all the information you need to know to make an intelligent decision about who to buy goods and services from just makes good sense.

We just don't bother with the "yellow pages" much anymore. "Honey, where's the yellow pages?" When we do find it, the book is usually out of date. It is too hard to find the right category for listings. Then most of the businesses are just the name, address, and phone. No info... Too expensive... Usually the one we are looking for is in another category. So we guess and guess and just give up. It takes too long.

Maybe we hear an AD on the radio in the car. But we forget the telephone # and never hear the AD again. And of course it is difficult to write it down if we are talking on the cell phone, juggling a hamburger, and reaching for the pop...If we are home we are usually watching TV. We ignore or "mute" most TV ADs, because we know that the cost for those ADs is outrageous and will probably come out of our pocket at the register.

It is a pain to go looking through a newspaper for an AD. If you do see one and plan to visit the merchant: where did you put that paper? What section was it in? Recently I talked with a head of marketing for a local newspaper that has all kinds of ADs in several sections. I asked him why there is not a page in the paper that is an index to find the Advertisers like there usually is in a magazine. His comment was that "... they normally extend the AD deadline to within a half hour before press time. There is simply not enough time to make an accurate index. Not only that, but the ADs are moved around to fit the articles and often change position or even the section at the last minute." Who knew!

Where is that flyer with the shop tools AD? Whatever happened to that $50 coupon book?
